Stress can have a negative effect on more than just your mental or emotional health. It can also weaken you physically, making you more susceptible to disease. Stress Relief is one of our most popular formulas for relieving the stresses of everyday life. This formula is not a sedative, so it won't make you sleepy or dull. It simply helps the Liver process the chemicals the body produces when we are under stress.

When the Liver is out of balance it creates what Chinese herbalism calls ''heat''. ''Heat'' can be exhibited a number of ways&mdashrestlessness, irritation, frustration, anger, insomnia, feeling of excess warmth, anxiety, or depression. Clinically, it may eventually show up as hypertension, high blood pressure, hepatitis and/or gallstones. Traditional Chinese Medicine considers these to be indications of ''liver heat''. Stress Relief helps the Liver process toxins more efficiently, whether they're ingested, inhaled, or created internally.

The effects of Stress Relief can often be felt very quickly. You'll find you are more flexible, more able to maintain balance in the midst of challenge. This is an ''edge'' which is important for survival in today's hectic, challenging life. For the dynamic, active individual, it has an invaluable ''grounding'' effect. Once again, Stress Relief is not a sedative, but merely an aid on the path toward balance.

Stress Relief is a common product in programs to reduce high FSH levels. According to Chinese Herbalism, the Liver energy is responsible for moving blood and chi (energy) in the body, and our hormones move in the blood. (Read more about high FSH...)

Clinically, Stress Relief has been found to be an excellent mood stabilizer, significantly reducing anxiety, nervousness, insomnia, and erratic emotional disturbances. Stress Relief has also been useful in stabilizing compulsive and addictive behavior, and has even been used in programs of withdrawal from drugs, alcohol and smoking. It has a very beneficial effect on lessening cravings and reducing withdrawal symptoms. Stress Relief, as an anti-compulsive formula, can also help to control weight by assisting to regulate appetite. It can improve will power, strengthen the mind, and reduce frustration, anxiety and anger.

Stress Relief is a very gentle formula. It has no known negative side effects and has been used successfully for thousands of years. Stress Relief can be taken long term safely.

Ingredients:   Bupleurum root, Pinellia, Dragon Bone, Poria Cocos, Cinnamon Twig, Scutellaria root, Ginger root, Ginseng root, Jujube fruit, Oyster Shell, Rhubarb root

Ingredients in Detail:

Bupleurum root: Bupleurum root is one of the most important herbs used in Chinese herbalism. It is not one of the Super Herbs, but it is used extensively because of its ability to reduce digestive problems and liver tension. It also detoxifies and is anti-microbial. When it is combined with certain other herbs, Bupleurum has the ability to eliminate stagnation anywhere in the body. It is used to relieve muscle tension and spasms and is very useful in dealing with menstrual problems. Our Bupleurum based formulas help to regulate the body's energy, allowing energy to flow evenly and freely. These types of formulas are usually used to relieve blockages of energy and discharging toxins safely out of the body. Bupleurum based formulas are often used in the early stages of achieving Radiant Health due to the fact that they allow the newly increased energy to flow smoothly throughout the body. As time goes by these Bupleurum based formulas are less and less necessary until eventually they are used only when needed, if at all. Bupleurum is a powerful detoxifying herb. As mentioned above, it is not a Super Herb and so has the potential for side effects if not balanced by the combining it with other herbs. The primary side effect is that detoxification can take place too rapidly. This is why it is used with herbs such as White Peony and Scutellaria, both of which detoxify the blood and eliminate heat that builds up with detoxification. This formula has been time-tested for hundreds of years and is very safe and gentle. (tension relief changed. Do the other bup. Formulas )

Pinellia: This is an important herb in this formula because it is especially effective for settling and calming uncontrolled energy. It produces a harmonizing effect.

Dragon Bone: Dragon Bone is a spirit stabilizer. It has a calming and relaxing effect. Dragon Bone is one of the main natural substances known for reducing excitability. This is a wonderful ingredient for those formulas whose goal is to overcome insomnia, irritability, anger, frustration, tension, fear, restlessness or any of the symptoms that require grounding rising physical and/or mental activity.  A little Dragon Bone in a formula can powerfully enhance the effectiveness. It is also extremely safe.

Poria Cocos: Recent scientific research has discovered that Poria is a powerful immunesystem booster. It induces the production of alpha-interferon and is used in Japan and China to assist in strengthening the immune systems in cancer patients. It is used in many formulas to improve the flow of water through the body. It is especially used inenergy formulas for this purpose. Poria contains the important chemicals beta-pachyman, beta-pachymanase, and pachymic acid. It is used for a variety of conditions affecting the urinary system, including fluid retention and difficulty in passing urine. It also has asoothing and tranquilizing effect on the nervous system, and can be very useful in treating stress related problems such as anxiety, tension headaches, palpatations, and difficulty in sleeping.

Cinnamon Twig: Cinnamon Twig, as opposed to Cinnamon Bark that is very warming, strengthens to body and results in a more youthful complexion. It is used to relax the neck and shoulders and helps to open up blood channels to improve circulation. It is milder than Cinnamon Bark.

Scutellaria root: In 1973, 92 wooden tablets were discovered in a 2nd-century AD tomb in northwestern China. Among the herbs listed in prescriptions for various ailments for Scutellaria root. The herb has had a central place in Chinese Herbal Medicine since at least 2,000 years and is one of the main herbs for "hot and damp" conditions, such as dysentery and diarrhea. About 12% of Scutellaria are the flavinoids baicalin and wogoniside. It also contains sterols and benzoic acid. The key actions for "Scut" make it a very useful herb in formulas that produce sedative, antiallergenic, antibiotic and anti-inflammatory effects. Extensive scientific research has shown that Scutellaria produces a clearly marked anti-inflammatory and antiallergenic action. This is due largely to the flavinoids. It also is used to help with venous problems and fragile capillaries. Clinical trails suggest that the use of Scutellaria for high fevers and infections is justified. The herb may also be useful for problems arising from diabetes, including cataracts.

Ginger root: Ginger root has a warm energy and is used primarily to warm the digestive fire. It also improves breathing, by helping to release the accumulation of cold and damp energies from the lungs. Ginger also has been show to enhance the affects of both Astragalus and Ginseng, so these herbs are often seen together in the same formula.

Ginseng root: Ginseng is an adaptogen and a powerful anti-stress agent. Ginseng helps to balance the whole mind/body system at a fundamental level. This concept refers to the ability of Ginseng to assist in regulating or strengthening the body's functions that regulate other body functions. Ginseng increases mental and physical efficiency and has been proven to be beneficial for general mental and physical weakness. It is usually used with other herbs, but sometimes by itself. It is not a stimulant, but promotes concentration and alertness. It has also been shown to improve memory and reasoning ability. Ginseng is an excellent herb for aged people. It sometimes produces startling results in reversing intellectual and mental deterioration. It is also helpful in quickening recovery from illness or surgery. Even after one stops taking Ginseng the mental and physical changes last for a long time.

Jujube fruit: We use Jujube fruit in many formulas. It is often used in conjunction with Ginseng. It seems to enhance to effects of Ginseng, while smoothing out the rough edges of Ginseng. It is a harmonizing herb that makes the whole formula work together. It provides high quality energy. It is also a blood builder and has a calming effect.

Oyster Shell: Oyster Shell is another “shen (spirit) stabilizer,” In Traditional Chinese Medicine the Heart is considered the “house” of the mind and the emotions -- The Heart houses the spirit. When we feel overwrought, either from excess thinking, or excess emotion, it is because excess heat (yang energy) is rising like a bonfire, disturbing both mind and emotions. Oyster shell is one of the special mineral-based herbs which reduces palpitations with anxiety, restlessness and insomnia.

Rhubarb root: Rhubarb is considered a purgative, cathartic and laxative herb. All herbs that induce evacuation of the bowels fall into this category. However, Rhubarb is unique. It is a mild herb that has an affinity for the large intestine. It has three basic effects: it facilitates bowel movements in order to eliminate stagnant food; it clear heats from the system; and, it expels excess liquids. According to Traditional Chinese Medicine when the digestive system becomes sluggish (maybe from eating too fast all the time, or eating foods which are difficult to digest, or because of too much emotional stress), it creates a condition in the intestines called “damp heat,” causing constipation and/or hemorrhoids. Rhubarb drains damp heat, and it also both invigorates blood and dispels blood stagnation. This is critical for good intestinal health, because proper blood circulation allows for both better moisture in the intestines and for better nutrient assimilation. Traditionally, Rhubarb is combined with other blood building and moistening herbs to build a formula which is safe and gentle to help rebuild the health of the digestive system for chronic constipation. Check out the following description of Rhubarb….. For centuries the rhizome(root) of the rhubarb was highly regarded by the Chinese for its medicinal properties. Modern research has justified its reputation. It contains anthraquinones, which have a purgative effect, and tannins and bitters which have the opposite effect. If taken in small quantities the tonic, aperient effect predominates and it is therefore useful in cases of appetite loss and acute diarrhea. Used to treat constipation, dysentery, hemorrhoids, portal congestion, pin/thread worms, skin eruptions from faulty elimination, blood in the stool and duodenal ulcers. It has a truly cleansing action upon the gut, removing debris, and then astringing with antiseptic properties as well. It is used externally to promote healing, counteract blood clots and promote menstruation. Stronger doses are laxative after 8-10 hours and are used to treat chronic constipation. Rhubarb is included in some proprietary preparations and is also a component of herbal tea mixtures and digestive powders. In 1987 a research team investigated extracts of 178 Chinese herbs for antibacterial activity against one of the major microorganisms in human intestinal flora. Only Rhubarb was found to have significant activity. The herb can be applied to burns, boils, and carbuncles. It is a useful mouthwash for canker sores.
