Remember that you are preparing the home for your baby. The following tips will help you to do just that.

1) Don’t ignore your feelings. Learn to feel your way through them, not think your way through them!

If you start to get afraid and scared, simply allow your awareness to shift from whatever it is you’re doing to your body.

Bring your attention to your breathing. Oxygen actually burns off adrenaline, which is why taking a few deep breaths can really help. This will also help you drop into your body and come into the present moment. Take your time and allow your breath to settle down. Breathe gently. There is a Chinese saying: “a calm breath is a calm heart.”

Then allow your attention to scan the body. Where do you feel the tension?
Just be aware of it. Don’t judge it as negative or positive. Simply breathe into it gently. When you feel a little relief, scan again and do the same thing.

If you start to panic, go to the bone between your breasts (the sternum). If you press with your middle finger up and down the bone do you feel a little pain somewhere? That is a special acupressure point that opens energy blockage in the chest. Press on this point for a minute and breathe into the pain. It will start to become less and you will feel calmer.

2) Stay Hydrated and Use Electrolytes

The body is about 60% water. Water is a conduit for your energy and vitality. When you are fully hydrated your body has more vitality, which also means more sexual vitality. Staying hydrated is extremely important to avoid muscle spasms, and that includes uterine spasms.

Electrolytes help your cells communicate with each other. You can make your own electrolyte water by adding a pinch of sea salt and a little lemon juice to room temperature water. Avoid Gatorade and Powerade, as these products are loaded with sugar and food dye. Electrolyte packets from the health food store have sugar, but not as much as Gatorade, and no food dye.

3) Eat well for your baby

Your baby wants to move into a home that is warm and full of the best quality blood.

Avoid cold drinks and foods. This includes raw vegetables and salads. When you ingest cold drinks and foods, your body has to compensate by pulling energy from energy reserves (needed for strong reproductive function) in order to breakdown them down. This drains the warmth and energy you need for the best reproductive health.

Eat your cooked vegetables. You may often eat salads, but when you are trying to conceive, and especially when you have the deadline of a transfer, you want to make absolutely sure you give your body all the support you can.

Eat green leafy vegetables (including broccoli). These foods are anti-inflammatory, wonderful blood builders, and chock full of nutrients. Green leafy veggies help you to build the best quality blood.

Avoid sugar, processed foods (full of chemicals), and dairy. All of these are difficult to digest and create sticky phlegm in the gut. Let me share a wonderful stew that not only builds blood and warmth for your baby’s home but also includes special vegetables to clear old phlegm and dairy.

4) Smile. Laugh. Sing (or Hum).

Did you know that smiling changes brain chemistry? The ‘’feel good’’ neurotransmitters dopamine and serotonin are all released when you smile, as are endorphins. Research also shows that the physical act of smiling decreases cortisol, the stress hormone.

Laughing also relaxes your body and releases stress, allowing the circulation of blood and energy in the body to be easier. This is all good preparation for your pregnancy.

Singing and humming are other techniques used to decrease cortisol levels and increase the hormones that support your fertility. Sing in the car. Sing when you are doing dishes. If your voice is too loud, then hum. Humming has the same effect. Research has found that singing and humming help to calm the baby and make for a healthier pregnancy.

5) Warm your belly BEFORE your Transfer

To help relax the muscles and tendons of the lower abdomen, increase circulation, reduce inflammation, and relax cramping and spasms, apply a hot pack on the low abdomen after the retrieval leading up to the transfer. *Do not use the hotpack after the transfer.*

6) Everyday, but especially the night before and day of your transfer, play a special soft song that you love

The wonderful thing about playing music you love is that it stays with you. You don’t have to listen to it constantly. A good song will be with you for a couple of days! Music has a profound effect on your body, as well as balancing hormones, improving circulation, and allowing blockages to move.

If you listen to music you love it will support you and your baby all the way through the transfer. It gives you a place for your mind to go when you start to get nervous. Think of it as a wave you are setting up between you and your baby that floats above all the emotions and turmoil of the world.

7) Special acupressure tapping point for calm and balance

One of the most effective acupressure points on the body is so easy to access. It is on the inside of your wrists, about 2 inches up from the crease. Follow the simple exercise below.

Start with your right hand. Let it be loose and relaxed. Tap on your left wrist with all 4 fingers of the right hand. Gently tap 4 times. Then switch and tap with your left hand on your right wrist. Again, 4 times. Do this back and forth, four times on each side. Repeat the 4+4 four times. Do this off and on during the day. This acupressure point has a direct effect on your central nervous system and on your hormonal balance.

Interesting fact: If you do bilateral tapping on the body, (tapping the same point back and forth on each side of your body), it synchronizes the two hemispheres of your brain, helping to calm and center you.

Extra Bonus: Herbal formulas that are very helpful for preparing for these procedures are:

Calm Energy – calms the central nervous system
