A Walk Outdoors Can Boost Your Brain Power By As Much As 50 Percent

*Research has demonstrated that adult subjects outperform themselves in a creative mental test after spending four days in nature, leaving smartphones and laptops behind.

*Brain power was enhanced by as much as 50 percent.

We have long understood the healthy exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide between plants and humans (we breathe in oxygen and breathe out carbon dioxide; plants breathe in carbon dioxide and breathe out oxygen).  Chinese Medicine has long purported that there is also an energy exchange between plants and humans.  It is contended that grass, small plants, bushes, trees all absorb excess stress we are emitting.  That is why, when you feel out of sorts, you are often drawn to go for a walk in nature (even if that ”nature” is limited to the grass and trees which may be along the sidewalk).  You go for a walk.  You don’t even focus on your problems.  You are not ”figuring” anything out.  Yet you return with clearer thought and the ability to return to the challenge with new ideas.

Looks as if this theory has roots in reality.

You have to leave your iphone at home.  Apparently too much of a good thing (creative work on your high tech equipment) is not a good thing.  So for creativity to flourish you need to disconnect from technology and reconnect with the natural world,”  writes co-author of a study on this subject, Dr. David Strayer, a professor of psychology at the University of Utah.

A hike, whether it is in the woods or through a park, not only releases stress but brings better circulation of blood and oxygen to the brain.  It helps to restore your brain power. It is very important in these challenging times to use tools that work to keep you in balance.  Stepping out into nature might just be a key for you.
