Exercise to Open and Strengthen the Lungs
Lean against a wall with your hands at your side, and your feet, shoulder-width apart about three feet from the wall. Push against the wall as hard as possible, so that you can feel the pressure building in your shoulders. Hold this position for a few seconds.
With your hands held much wider than your shoulders, lean against the wall and push as hard as possible until you feel the pressure in the middle of your chest. Hold for a few seconds.
With your hands held over your head, lean against the wall and push as hard as possible so you feel the pressure on your back, behind your shoulders. Hold this position for a few seconds.
Purpose and Effect:
Repeat these movements six times. Effects should be felt almost immediately. In addition to opening your lungs, this exercise brings blood to your chest and lungs and opens the air sacs in your lungs that may have clamped down with asthmatic response.
